Unfortunately there are many unscrupulous breeders that advises the public they have pedigreed dogs registered with other organisations - NO other organisation, except The Kennel Union of South Africa can provide pedigrees. If your puppy is NOT registered with KUSA, then your puppy is not a pedigreed / registered Golden Retriever.
There are many breeders that advertise their puppies as "Golden Retrievers" when in fact they are "Yellow Labrador Retrievers". These are two totally different dog breeds that has NO connection to each other.
Always ask for the Health Certificates of BOTH parents and the certificates MUST be for hips, elbows and eyes. The eye certificates must not be older than 12 months (as they are only valid for 12 months). Please familiarise yourself with the hip & elbow scores so that you know what to look for in the certificates. Also ask for copies of the pedigrees of both parents as they must BOTH have KUSA pedigrees - preferably ask to see the originals because there has been instances where pedigrees are copied and then amended and copies provided to non-suspecting puppy owners.
If you suspect that your pedigree certificate may not be correct or have ANY complaints about a breeder, please contact the Kennel Union of South Africa and the matter will be investigated and addressed.
CAVEAT EMPTOR! As responsible breeders, exhibitors, and owners of purebred dogs, it is important to be on the alert for cleverly-disguised puppy brokering 'services' that crop up from time to time. Just recently, a new website has appeared, which is being advertised via unsolicited emails, that openly states "We source our puppies and kittens from only the best breeders in South Africa and ship worldwide." They also claim to "handle all paperwork, no hassle for the buyer" including the application for export pedigrees. Their fee includes "KUSA Registration Certificate, first standard vaccinations required in South Africa, microchip, pre-release vetting, and Basic Health Guarantee." They claim "Our puppies are registered by the Kennel Union of South Africa, where most breeds register their litters." Please be aware of such 'services' and choose to work directly with registered breeders and KUSA instead.
